1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Kotan application ("App") and related services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use our services.

Kotan is a community platform exclusively for university students. By using our services, you represent that you are a currently enrolled university student with a valid university email address.

2. Eligibility

To use Kotan, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in your jurisdiction
  • Be a currently enrolled student at a supported university
  • Have a valid university email address for verification
  • Not have been previously banned or removed from our platform

3. Account Registration

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information
  • Maintain and update your information as needed
  • Keep your login credentials secure and confidential
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account

4. Username Reservation

Username reservations made before the official app launch are subject to the following conditions:

  • Reservations are valid only for verified university email addresses
  • Reserved usernames must be claimed within 30 days of app launch
  • We reserve the right to reject or revoke usernames that violate our policies
  • Usernames cannot be transferred or sold to other users

5. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Post content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable
  • Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Upload viruses, malware, or other harmful code
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts
  • Use the platform for commercial purposes without authorization
  • Engage in spam, phishing, or other deceptive practices
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Encourage or facilitate violations of these Terms

6. Content

You retain ownership of content you post on Kotan. However, by posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and display your content in connection with operating and improving our services.

You are solely responsible for the content you post. We do not endorse any user content and are not liable for any content posted by users.

7. Anonymous Posting

Kotan offers anonymous posting features. While your identity may be hidden from other users, we maintain records necessary to enforce these Terms and comply with legal requirements. Anonymous posting does not exempt you from following our community guidelines.

8. Moderation and Enforcement

We reserve the right to:

  • Remove or disable access to any content that violates these Terms
  • Suspend or terminate accounts that violate our policies
  • Report illegal activities to appropriate authorities
  • Cooperate with law enforcement when required

9. Intellectual Property

The Kotan name, logo, and all related graphics, software, and intellectual property are owned by Kotan and protected by applicable laws. You may not use our intellectual property without prior written consent.

10. Disclaimers

Kotan is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that our services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

We are not responsible for:

  • Content posted by users
  • Interactions between users
  • Loss of data or content
  • Third-party services or links

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kotan and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our services.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Kotan and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of our services or violation of these Terms.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes through the app or via email. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violations of these Terms or for any other reason at our discretion. You may also delete your account at any time through the app settings.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Malaysia, without regard to conflict of law principles.
